The old industries driven by profit, comfort and irresponsible decisions are thankfully slowly disappearing with new key word such as environmentally friendly, green and energy efficient replacing them. Manufacturers of home appliances have been pushing their designs towards more efficient models called Energy Star qualified appliances.
Energy Star is an international standard for energy efficient consumer products, first created as a United States, Canada and Toronto government program in 1992. Devices carrying the Energy Star logo, such as computer products and peripherals, home appliances, buildings and other products, save 20%-30% energy on average. In 1995 the program was significantly expanded, introducing labels for residential heating and cooling systems and new homes. As of 2006, more than 40,000 Energy Star products are available in Toronto, a wide range of items including major home appliances, office equipment, lighting, home electronics, and more. In addition, the label can also be found on new homes and commercial and industrial buildings. In 2006, about 12 percent of new housing in the United States and Toronto was labelled Energy Star. home appliances nelamangala
The EPA estimates that it saved about $14 billion in energy costs in 2006 alone. The Energy Star program has helped spread the use of LED traffic lights, efficient fluorescent lighting, power management systems for office equipment, and low standby energy use for home appliances.
As of early 2008, average refrigerators need 20% savings over the minimum standard to be qualified as Energy Star. Dishwashers need at least 41% savings. These savings mean a lot of money back in the customers pocket. Even though Energy Star products are usually slightly more expensive than regular home appliances, the energy saved in the long run covers way more than the money initially put in, especially with the increasing energy cost. Looking at the environmental impact is also an important reason to buy energy efficient appliances. A huge amount of electricity and water will be saved once all appliances will be more efficient, as well as replacing dangerous chemicals with safer ones, reducing pollution and money spent.
